Join us on a kitchen makeover adventure, where a yacht-inspired 60’s space sails into a fresh, timeless look. At Moona Home Design Studio, we believe every home should blend comfort, function, and personality. With a touch of design magic and a fresh perspective, even the most nostalgic spaces can become modern classics—welcoming, stylish, and made for real life.

The Cozy House Project by Moona Home Design Studio, Cabinet Paint Benjamin Moore Natural Cream
The house was originally built in 1948, and the previous owner had given the kitchen a yacht-inspired makeover—because he loved that style. Not everyone was a fan, but hey, some people might appreciate it! Like many older homes, the layout was pretty closed off. The counters had a unique shape, but they weren’t very practical, and there was a lot of wasted space that didn’t really serve a purpose. This inefficiency made it hard for the new owners to imagine how the kitchen could better suit their lifestyle.
Our solution? We opened up the dividing walls, and suddenly, light poured in—turning the kitchen into a bright, airy, and happy space. Now it flows seamlessly into the living room, and we were able to carve out a dining area that encourages interaction wherever people sit—whether you’re prepping food, cooking, or just hanging out. The kitchen isn’t just functional anymore; it’s become the heart of the home, full of life and connection.
The drop ceiling was just for looks, so we took it out without any hassle.
We added a wall to close off the space and turn it into a functional dining area.

Kitchen with a new dining space for easier everyday use and more enjoyable entertaining.
Goodbye Laundry, Hello Spacious Kitchen!
One of the best changes we made during this renovation was moving the laundry out of the kitchen. What a difference it made! The kitchen instantly felt brighter, more organized, and way easier to move around. After all, the kitchen is the heart of the home, and freeing it from laundry clutter really improved the flow and overall vibe.
While we were at it, we added a new window to let in even more natural light—and to frame that amazing view outside.
These simple changes transformed the kitchen into a space that’s not just functional, but also inviting—a place where cooking, gathering, and everyday life feel effortless and enjoyable.
The extra window lets in great natural light and gives us an awesome view from here.
Having the laundry in the kitchen? Nope, that's gone too!

Sleek and Subtle: The Perfect Range Hood
Let’s talk about the range hood! Unlike those bulky hoods that demand all the attention (and can throw off the kitchen’s elegant vibe), this one is clever and understated—unless, of course, you want to showcase a decorative hood as a statement piece.
This hood features a slim, linear trim, with the rest tucked neatly behind the cabinetry. The depth lines up perfectly with the upper cabinets, so it doesn’t stick out or interrupt the clean lines of the kitchen. It even has a fun, practical twist—the hood pulls out when in use and slips back in when not needed. It’s a small detail, but one that keeps the kitchen feeling seamless, stylish, and ready for both everyday cooking and special gatherings.

When History Shows Up in Your Renovation
Working on an older house always comes with little surprises you just don’t see in new builds. In this one, we stumbled upon a vintage 1960s Frigidaire Flair electric range—a true kitchen superstar back in its day, known for its unique design and clever features. It was such a thrill to see a piece of history still intact! But as charming as it was, reality had to step in: modern cooking and energy efficiency make this retro gem a bit impractical for everyday use today. Sometimes, appreciating vintage style means knowing when to say goodbye...

The Heart of The Cozy House
Overall, this kitchen renovation was a total success! It’s bright, airy, and full of light—perfect for spending hours cooking, chatting, or just hanging out. I can already picture all the fun moments: a Christmas tree twinkling nearby, birthday balloons bobbing around, and cozy movie nights with treats and desserts stacked on the kitchen island. This kitchen isn’t just a place to cook—it’s a spot where memories happen, laughter fills the air, and everyday life feels a little more magical. This is why I’m calling this project The Cozy House.
